Ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament starting on Monday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has called on all political parties to cooperate, ensuring the smooth functioning of the House. In a post on [Platform X], the Speaker expressed hope that members of the Lower House would engage in proceedings with discipline and decorum, focusing on issues related to national interest and public welfare. Birla emphasized the importance of collective efforts to enhance the dignity of the House.

The Winter Session commenced a day after the results of Assembly elections in four states were declared, with the BJP winning three (Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan), and Congress securing victory in Telangana.

During the first day of the Winter Session, the Ethics Committee is scheduled to present its report on the ‘cash-for-query’ allegations against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra. This could potentially lead to confrontations between the Treasury and opposition benches.

The Lok Sabha’s agenda for December 4 includes the laying of the Ethics Committee’s report on the table. The committee had previously submitted its draft report recommending the expulsion of Mahua Moitra to Speaker Om Birla.

To ensure the smooth functioning of the session, the government conducted an all-party meeting on Saturday. The session, scheduled to have 15 sittings between December 4 and December 22, will address 21 Bills, including those aimed at replacing the IPC, the Indian Evidence Act, and the CrPC.
