Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], December 14: In a development marked by political discord, Congress MLA Gaddam Prasad Kumar assumed office as the Speaker of the Telangana Assembly on Thursday. The move came after a contentious row over the pro-tem Speaker, which saw the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, BJP, AIMIM, and Left supporting the candidature of the Congress MLA, ultimately resulting in his unanimous election.

The controversy arose when BJP MLAs refused to take the oath under pro-tem Speaker Akbaruddin Owaisi, brother of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. In response, they submitted a representation to the Governor, expressing their objections. Subsequently, Gaddam Prasad Kumar was elected as the new Speaker with broad support from various political factions.

Addressing reporters outside the Assembly, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed gratitude for the unanimous election of Gaddam Prasad Kumar. He highlighted the endorsement from the BRS, CPI, and AIMIM, and noted that the BJP also supported the Congress MLA’s candidature.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu assumed office at the state secretariat in Hyderabad on the same day.

Gaddam Prasad Kumar, a Congress MLA from Vikarabad, filed his nomination for the Speaker’s post on Wednesday, setting the stage for the political developments that unfolded on Thursday.

The controversy began when Akbaruddin Owaisi, as the pro-tem Speaker, administered the oath of office to newly elected MLAs on December 9. However, all eight BJP MLAs refused to take the oath under him, alleging a violation of rules in his appointment.

In the recently concluded assembly polls, the Congress secured 64 seats, with its ally CPI winning one seat. The BRS, BJP, and AIMIM secured 39, eight, and seven seats, respectively.

Gaddam Prasad Kumar, a seasoned politician, contested the Assembly polls for the first time in 2009 and won the Vikarabad Assembly constituency. He has previously served as the minister for Handlooms and Textiles in the undivided Andhra Pradesh cabinet.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy conducted a comprehensive review of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, its expansion plans, and the Airport Metro Project on Thursday. Emphasizing the need for equal development in all directions, the CM underscored Hyderabad’s potential to become a global city with limitless possibilities.

“Date of December 13 was fixed at behest of Lalit Jha”: Police sources on Parliament Security breach incident https://www.newsx.com/date-of-december-13-was-fixed-at-behest-of-lalit-jha-police-sources-on-parliament-security-breach-incident/ Thu, 14 Dec 2023 08:54:42 +0000 https://www.newsx.com/?p=761056 “Parliament Breach Mastermind Lalit Jha Evades Police; Orchestrated Conspiracy Date”

New Delhi [India], December 14: Lalit Jha, the absconding accused in the Parliament Security breach case, is suspected to be the mastermind behind the entire conspiracy, with police officials revealing that Jha had determined the date for the breach incident. However, his role as the mastermind will only become clear once apprehended, according to police sources.

It was disclosed on Thursday that Lalit Jha had convened a meeting in Gurugram where he decided on the date for executing the breach inside Parliament. “Lalit Jha had called everyone for a meeting in Gurugram. Before carrying out the incident, Lalit himself took possession of the phones of the four accused and ran away,” stated police sources.

Lalit Jha, the prime suspect, was last traced in Rajasthan’s Neemrana. Authorities believe he might be attempting to erase evidence from the mobile phones of the four accused, which he had taken with him. Jha reportedly sent a video of the incident to Nilaksha Aich, founder of an NGO in West Bengal working on tribal education, where Lalit Jha was a member.

Nilaksha Aich commented on Jha’s behavior, saying, “He never said anything about anything himself to me. He has always kept his details shady. He never mentioned his whereabouts, who are in his family or not. I have not seen him being violent personally.”

All the accused, including Lalit Jha, were associated with the social media page ‘Bhagat Singh Fan Club,’ having initially met in Mysuru about a year and a half ago. Sagar Sharma, who arrived from Lucknow in July, was unable to enter the Parliament House. On December 10, the group reconvened in Delhi near India Gate, where colored crackers were distributed.

Earlier on Thursday, the Lok Sabha secretariat suspended eight security personnel over identified lapses that contributed to the major security breach in Parliament on Wednesday. The breach coincided with the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, involving individuals who jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber, released yellow gas canisters, and shouted slogans before being subdued.

A case has been registered against the accused under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the Parliament Security breach incident. Four individuals have been arrested, and police are currently interrogating Vicky and his wife in relation to the case.

Parliament Security Breach: Lok Sabha Secretariat suspends eight security personnel https://www.newsx.com/parliament-security-breach-lok-sabha-secretariat-suspends-eight-security-personnel/ Thu, 14 Dec 2023 08:50:38 +0000 https://www.newsx.com/?p=761054 “Parliament Security Breach Fallout: Eight Security Personnel Suspended, PM Modi Holds Meeting”

New Delhi, December 14: In the aftermath of Wednesday’s unprecedented security breach in Parliament, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has taken decisive action, suspending eight security personnel over identified lapses. The breach, occurring on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, involved intruders Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, who jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour, releasing yellow gas canisters and shouting slogans before being subdued by MPs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, deeply concerned about the breach, convened a meeting with senior ministers inside Parliament to assess the security situation. Meanwhile, opposition leaders are demanding statements in both houses regarding the incident. The Lok Sabha session was adjourned until 2 pm amid protests by Opposition MPs, who also called for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasized the collective concern about the breach and reiterated that the security of the House is the responsibility of the Lok Sabha Secretariat. Congress MP Manickam Tagore raised questions about an alleged intelligence failure, calling for a fair investigation. He stated, “Home Minister Amit Shah must answer, as the Delhi Police and all security agencies report to him. He cannot run away from this responsibility… BJP MP Mr. Simha provided passes to these culprits, there is a very deep conspiracy behind this and he must not be left unpunished.”

A notable shift in security measures was witnessed on Thursday, with personnel at the outer gates insisting on removing even shoes, resembling airport security checks. This change follows the arrest of Manoranjan and Sagar Sharma, who broke into the Lok Sabha, jumped from the visitors’ gallery, and opened smoke canisters hidden in their shoes. Only Members of Parliament are being allowed to enter the Parliament building from Makar Dwar, and all individuals entering the building undergo thorough checks.

Additionally, media personnel are now restricted to stand nearly 50-60 meters away from ‘Makar Dwar’ of the New Parliament building, one of the primary entry gates for legislators.

Four individuals were arrested on Wednesday under charges of the anti-terror Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in connection with the security breach. The Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered an inquiry committee, tasked with investigating the breach, identifying lapses, and recommending further action. The committee is expected to submit its report with recommendations to improve security in Parliament at the earliest.
